Analyse Yourself!

In the last 2 editions of Lifebuilder, we talked about the power of questions to help us grow personally and deal with life's often stressful challenges, presented a hypothetical 'stressful' scenario for you to consider and decide how you would react or respond in this situation (click here to read this again to refresh your memory), and then posed a series of questions asking you the particular ways you would respond in this situation (click here to read these again). Note down the letter corresponding to the answer you choose to each question, total the number of A, B and C answers you recorded, then read the analysis of your responses below. The aim of the exercise is to increase your self-awareness and help you to choose a better response to similar 'stressful' situations you may experience in your life in future, not to make you judge yourself or feel bad about yourself. Use this analysis as a general and objective viewpoint of your current internal state and behaviours arising from that state which helps you to learn, grow and improve your life, and the exercise will be well worth the few minutes you spend doing it!

See below for a brief description of the modes of consciousness that descibe people who selected predominantly 'A', 'B' and 'C' category answers. These describe a person who operates totally in that mode of consciousness, when in reality, most of us will operate in all 3 modes in different situations. However, we do all have a dominant mode of consciousness. Once you have read the descriptions below, ask yourself which level of consciousness do you think is the most powerful and is the most likely to lead to a high-quality proposal and presentation that wins the contract for your company in the hypothetical scenario we created?

A. Runner-Victim

This mode or level of consciousness is called ‘Runner-Victim’ because people at this level continuously activate the ‘Flight’ part of the instinctive ‘Fight or Flight’ response human beings have hard coded into our physiology from our days when physical danger from a predatory animal was a constant reality and we needed this automatic response to survive. When the mind interprets reality as constantly threatening because of its past experiences, this response is activated and our bodies produce a surge of adrenaline, cortisol and various other ‘stress’ hormones that dilate the pupils, making us hypersensitive to external stimuli and raising our heart rate to ensure blood is pumped quickly into our muscles so we can run away quickly or fight whatever is threatening us. Our minds and bodies are not designed to operate in this stressed state for more than a few minutes, but unfortunately, when we see reality as constantly threatening, our bodies continually produce these ‘stress’ hormones, making us feel permanently ‘stressed out’ and even more under attack. In this state, we feel ‘out of synch’ with our environment, cannot perform anywhere near our full potential and our mental and physical health suffers.

A person operating at this level is very easily frightened, as they feel almost continuously under threat from their external environment. They feel separate and disconnected from themselves, other people and life itself, and continually overwhelmed by the fear they experience. They feel victimised and then tend to manifest situations that express this victim consciousness. They ask the question ‘Why me?’ a great deal, feel sorry for themselves most of the time and think that all the bad things that happen to them must be happening because they deserve to be punished, which only reinforces their sense of victimhood and lack of self-worth. They deal with life’s challenges by trying to run away or remove themselves from the situation instead of facing and dealing with it, and so are prone to depression and substance abuse, especially of alcohol and tranquilisers, both of which temporarily remove the external stimulus they think is causing their pain, but cause more pain and damage to the mind and body in the long run. They will never achieve a great deal in life or experience any true happiness until they become aware of the fact that they are creating their own limited and fearful reality for themselves and have the power to choose to experience a completely different reality that will bring them both inner peace and outer success.

B. Warrior-Achiever

This mode or level of consciousness is called ‘Warrior-Achiever’ because people at this level continuously activate the ‘Fight’ part of the instinctive ‘Fight or Flight’ response. The mind of a person at this level also interprets reality as constantly threatening because of its past experiences. However, the Warrior-Achiever personality triggers the mind-body  into a state of readiness to fight rather than flee the threat by releasing ‘stress’ hormones that prepare it for battle. Warrior-Achievers do have a more positive self-image and a belief that one must fight for what you want in order to survive and achieve anything in life, so would rather stand and fight the perceived danger than flee, a response they regard with contempt. Unfortunately, this response, while often applauded by society and like-minded peers, means their bodies continually produce the same ‘stress’ hormones as A-type people, making them feel permanently stressed and in a constant battle or struggle with other people and life itself. In this state, they also feel ‘out of synch’ with their environment and, while their aggression and domineering attitude bring them outer success in a world that often rewards these traits, they will also never perform anywhere near their full potential or experience any true happiness or inner peace in life.

People operating at this level are very easily provoked to anger and aggression, as they, like Type-A people, feel almost continuously under threat from their external environment and respond with aggression rather than a desire to flee. They feel that life is a continuous battle and tend to manifest conflict situations in their life. They judge people as being either ‘winners’ or ‘losers’ and desperately want to be winners, stopping at nothing to make sure they do win. They ask the question ‘What if?’ a lot and are motivated by the desire for money, the material things it can buy and the status it will give them, which are the real measures of success in their eyes. However, while they may appear to be outwardly successful and confident, they are constantly haunted by their fear of failure and becoming a ‘loser’ overnight.

They deal with life’s challenges by facing them aggressively and competitively, adopting a win-at-all-costs attitude, and so tend to have many conflicts with people, who perceive them as arrogant, aggressive and domineering. These people are also prone to substance abuse, particularly stimulants like cigarettes, caffeine, amphetamines and cocaine, and often suffer emotional ‘burnout’, a breakdown or a physical collapse, such as a heart attack or stroke when their over-stressed systems simply collapse. They will often achieve a great deal of outer success in the form of money and recognition, but are not well liked by many people whom they have trampled underfoot in their desperate desire to succeed, and do not experience any true happiness or inner peace, as they are always looking ahead for more external success and recognition to bring them the happiness they really seek inside. A burnout or breakdown can be the best thing that ever happens to these people (although they won't see it this way at the time!), as it can make them re-assess their whole life and help them evolve to the third, C-level of consciousness. Until they do, they will forever chase external success in search of the inner fulfilment they truly seek without realising it, a vain quest that will only lead to ultimate disillusionment, which again could be what shifts them into the C-level of consciousness.

C. Observer-Creator

This mode or level of consciousness is called ‘Observer-Creator’ because people at this level observe life in a detached way without allowing themselves to be caught up in the drama of life and the negative emotions this produces, while simultaneously being able to engage in life in a highly creative and productive way using positive energy and emotions to fuel them. This state of consciousness may appear to be paradoxical and therefore unattainable to a mind thinking linearly and dually, but many great men and women who have mastered this state of being and achieved amazing things in the past – the highly evolved spiritual beings and great geniuses of history - have proven that it is not only possible, but is in fact essential. This is because only in a state of ‘no mind’ can we free ourselves of the dysfunctional thoughts that produce ‘stress’ hormones and the negative emotions that correspond with them to receive the inspiration and positive energy that are prerequisites for high-level, conscious creation. In the Biblical story of creation, God created the universe out of nothing and then rested and observed it all on the seventh day. All truly positive creative acts by human beings, who are created in the image and likeness of God according to all the ancient teachings from various religious traditions, must follow the same model of creation on a smaller scale.

People operating at this level are capable of extraordinary creativity and productivity, yet always seem to be calm and at peace with themselves in the midst of all of their activity. Much like the 'eye' of a hurricane, they have perfect stillness and peace at their core, their immortal spirits, while they may be creating or enduring huge storms of outer activity. They feel ‘in synch’ with or connected to their environment and other people, a feeling of freedom and abundance that is the highest form of love, which brings them true happiness and a deep desire to share this abundance of joy and love with others. As a result, most people respond to them with warmth and a desire to help them, so they often have large networks of friends and acquaintances whose help and advice they can draw upon, if necessary. However, they avoid becoming ‘part of’ any in-groups or cliques. They simply observe and do not judge other people, even when they are behaving in a negative way, although again paradoxically, they are not afraid to speak out to show people the error of their ways and help them to correct their behaviour, which does not endear them to strong type-B people, who do not like to told they are doing something incorrectly.

They think in a non-dual, non-linear way with their whole brains instead of just their left or right brains, as with people in the ‘A’ and ‘B’ states of consciousness, which slows and ‘synchs’ their brain waves, leading to highly creative states and the amplification of their thoughts to allow them to manifest whatever they conceive and focus on with their powerful minds into reality. They are growth rather than achievement oriented and welcome life’s challenges as opportunities to grow internally, continuously improving their level of consciousness and their performance as a result, which automatically leads to extraordinary external results and success. They seem to flow naturally and effortlessly through life, even in times that may seem to be very challenging by other people's standards, and attract success and abundance fairly easily because they have made and continue to make the effort to grow internally and develop this ‘fluidic consciousness’.

These highly conscious individuals tend to thrive on new opportunities and challenges, but still manage to maintain a balanced life where their spiritual, mental, emotional and physical aspects are all well looked after and each aspect is given its proper attention. They make their spiritual practice and ongoing spiritual growth their first priority in life and let the rest of the aspects and activities in their lives rotate around this peaceful and powerful inner core. They can achieve a great deal of outer success in the form of money and recognition if that is what living their personal mission leads to, but are not overly affected by it, as they understand that it is all very temporary and cannot be taken with them when they die, something they are not afraid of because they have an understanding of the higher purpose of life and their lives.

In the next edition of Lifebuilder, we will show you how you can grow and evolve your consciousness to the C-level to enjoy all the benefits of this extremely powerful state of consciousness and transform yourself, your response-ability to life's stressful situations and the results you manifest. Please save this email in a folder somewhere so you can re-read it in two weeks time to remind yourself what you are aiming for. Until then, be Conscious
