It always amazes me how reluctant people are to say those two little words: ‘I’m sorry’. When will we realize that an apology doesn’t diminish us? It shows we are big enough not to have to pretend to be perfect. Research on victims of crime shows that what they want more than anything is for the perpetrator to admit responsibility and express contrition. People are incredibly forgiving. You only have to look at what has happened in South Africa over the last 15 years to see that. 

Those we hurt don’t buy our spineless excuses, so why even bother with them? Ironically, the best way to undo some of the damage to the relationship is to admit we were wrong and make a heart-felt apology. We are all imperfect, but we make ourselves less so when we admit it.
