Hi,
welcome to Lifebuilder!
Over the past couple of weeks, I have been moving my home and office. From my psychology studies, I recall that moving is in the top seven stressors, right up there with death and divorce. I still think that’s an exaggeration, but it has been a tumultuous period, what with incompetent builders, missing and stolen belongings, ever-mounting bills and a general feeling of insecurity and dislocation, all on top of my day
job. OK, maybe those stressor stats aren’t such an exaggeration after all!
But if you’ve ever been in one of my motivational presentations, you’ll know that
stress arises from our perception of events rather than the events
themselves. When I have felt stressed, I just remind myself how fortunate I am to be living in my beautiful new home, how the person who stole my video camera probably needs it more than I do
and how one bad renovation doesn’t overshadow the five other excellent ones. Whenever I focus on what I have gained rather than what I have lost, my stress is virtually eliminated. Yes, it takes mental discipline
- it’s all to easy to slip into resentment and frustration - but
when you take the time to control your thoughts, no matter what is happening, serenity can be
yours.
Until next week -
Create Your
Self!
