Welcome to
Lifebuilder!
Last week we discovered that
motivation is the key ingredient of success. There are two main motivating emotions:
fear and desire.
All of us are motivated by the desire for pleasure. We are motivated towards money, status, romance, praise,
physical pleasure and (hopefully) the creation of a better world.
We are also motivated by the fear of pain: we are motivated to avoid retrenchment, bankruptcy, rejection, physical pain and (not always) the destruction of our world.
BUILD YOUR LIFE
Focus on one thing that you
want to achieve in your life. How can you use the
fear of pain or the desire for pleasure to help you take
action to achieve this goal?
|
To
keep yourself motivated, you need to create feelings of fear
or desire. For instance, when you find yourself wanting to
skip exercise or overeat, picture yourself with a flabby
tummy, clogged arteries and feeling sluggish. Feel the
physical and psychological discomfort of being in that state.
Here you are using the fear of pain as a motivator. Now
imagine the pleasure of having a strong, healthy, sexy body
and feeling great that you'll experience when you eat less and
exercise regularly. Here you are using the desire for
pleasure as a motivator.
Next week, discover how to go from zero motivation to positive action in a single
moment.
Until
then – Create Your Self!
