When something happens that we think of as unpleasant, we feel ‘bad’. This ‘bad’ feeling is there to motivate us to do something to make the situation better, just as when you cut your finger, you are motivated to clean the wound and put on a plaster. It’s a survival response. 

Sometimes we will be unable to change the situation. That’s when we need to change our thinking. One way of doing this is to get ourselves to accept the situation by repeating a phrase like: ‘So be it.’ Another great way is to flood out our negative thoughts with positive thoughts. You will be amazed at how the persistent repetition of words like: ‘Yes, good, joy, positive, fantastic, brilliant’ is able to drown out negative thoughts and usher in positive emotions.
