So many people focus on what they don’t want rather than what they do. This causes them to manifest the very thing they are trying to avoid. 

This reminds me of when I went on a paragliding course with some friends. We spent our first couple of days gliding down sand dunes in our specially designed parachutes. To avoid accidents, we were taught on a deserted beach that had nothing but a solitary wind vane. It was my friend’s turn to jump. He launched well, getting good elevation but we soon noticed him gliding towards the only obstruction on an otherwise desolate coastline – the wind vane. Surely in the last few seconds he would veer away? But no, as if aiming right for it, he and the wind vane soon became one. After limping back up the sand dune, we asked him in wonder how he managed to get such a perfect bull's eye. “I don’t know”, he replied, “I kept telling myself, ‘Don’t hit the wind vane, don’t hit the wind vane, don’t hit the wind vane.'” In life, as in paragliding, focus on where you want to go, not where you don’t.
